Cozy and contemporary

Idyll is our coziest chalet. Originally, Idyll was the main house on the farm and was moved to its current location when a new main house was built. In the past, it was common to move buildings like this.

Idyll is made from timber logs from Uvdal, so the old, comforting atmosphere is embedded in the walls. When you light the fireplace and leave the door open, the flames fill the room with a warm, cozy glow. It’s the perfect place to relax in Idyll.

We’ve preserved the original features and blended them with some new elements. The old doors have been restored, and the floors, walls, and ceiling are original, only refurbished. The staircase leading to the second floor is also original. It has a steep climb, but we chose not to replace it. It has served its purpose for nearly 100 years, and we expect it to last for another 100.

Enviroment

Reusing the original materials is probably the most environmentally friendly approach possible. When Idyll was built, the quality of timber was far superior to what we have today. In the past, they knew exactly when to cut the trees. They took their time and waited for the right moment, rather than rushing through the process as we often do today.

When we renovate, there is always a compromise between meeting modern standards and preserving or reusing materials. Of course, we prioritize reuse, or we repurpose materials by giving them a new function if they need to be replaced. We've become quite skilled at creating new things from old materials.

Local Area

From Idyll, you can simply put on your skis and head straight out into the beautiful surroundings. The area offers fantastic hiking opportunities, with mountain peaks such as Hårteigen and the Hardangervidda National Park just nearby, both in summer and winter. The village also has a rich cultural heritage, with several museums and historic landmarks. For those who enjoy skiing, there are several ski resorts in the area and miles of groomed trails. Øvre Uvdal also has a small center with shops and restaurants offering local produce and traditional Norwegian cuisine.

From Oslo: Drive along F40 towards Geilo. Turn right towards Smådøl. Drive for 400-500 meters, then take the first left towards Hagasetåsen. Drive trougt the barrier. Take the first right. Chalet Idyll is the first Chalet you get to.

Absolutely fantastic outdoor benches with a fire pit. We spent many hours here. Very cozy chalet. Open fireplace and ample space around the dining table.
The teenagers disappeared into the loft. Nice to have a place where they can retreat. The chalet is practical and has a good layout.
I've always liked original log cabins made the old-fashioned way. They retain heat incredibly well.

We were here the second week of January. We enjoyed ourselves the entire week. Practical kitchen, perfect for cooking. Spacious living room and everyone had their own room. Appreciated having a desk in the rooms.
Guristua is located in an incredibly beautiful hiking area. We took a hike towards "Sjuggurdshødga". A suitable hike for both adults and children. We picked blueberries, and the cloudberries were not yet ripe. Nice chalet with plenty of space.
